a pic of Corey fighting on the dream plane

This is a pic of Corey that August painted... from a dream he had. There is a possibility that August was actually on the dream plane with Corey.

Writing Schedule

I've really struggled with writing lately. I retired from my last full time job in 2008 and I thought I'd arrived... that I'd just write gloriously into trips to Paris and happy fan letters. Ha. But really, I'm about to finish my current novel, which I think is the best work I've ever done.  I just got up here today. It's 9:30. I'm going to write until this novel is done. Tomorrow I'm going to rip up the tiles in the downstairs kitchen, but even while I'm doing that, I'll be thinking about story.  I kinda have two states... working on story, or being miserable.  I watched a show recently called "Skip Beat". It's a show about actors and I realized that the way I write is a lot like acting.  So my books are a little like movies. I like graphic novels too, but I also love prose, so as works they merge into this product of my imagination. This post is for the blog hop :) So here's a question for you... what do you hope for your writing? …

Cancer Cure

Okay... I'm not a biologist and I'm a long way off from being a doctor.  But a friend of mine gave me a link to an article about a cancer cure that was discovered in Canada. It uses drugs we already have, so no crazy side effects. It's not patentable though. Would pharmaceutical companies really let people suffer and die because they couldn't make money on a different cure? Is that the kind of medical community we want?

New Cover for August and Anderson

Image
Quite a few years later...
Home Again, Home Again August threw the door open, threw both arms over his head, hips cocked to the side, tie loose around his neck, carryon bag hanging over one shoulder. "Beloved family! I'm home!" Of course, it was the middle of the day. His mom would be at work. His father would be in DC, so the time of day didn't really matter, and his angelic little brother would be in school.  The servants were going to stay away from him, if they could. He dropped his bag and gave it a kick towards the stairs.  He wasn't supposed to be home. He was supposed to be at Harvard, doing summer school, to make up for classes that he hadn't paid enough attention to in the winter semester. Humming, he strode to his father's study, opened the double french doors and happily took possession of his daddy's home office. He went directly to the wet bar and mixed himself a sour apple martini. College really wasn't his thing. Maybe his parents woul…

Plots or Pants

Plot or Pantster

by Sebastian Blade

So - have you ever gotten up - decided to go on a picnic. You can see the picnic spot, the warmth of the sun, taste the sweetness of the watermelon - So do you sit down and make a nice to do list and plan everything out so you can have the picnic tomorrow?

Maybe....

If you're me, you throw some junk in the basket, grab a blanket, jump a bus and out you go! You meet someone interesting on the bus, find a street fair that you didn't expect, take photos of an interesting dog, send text msgs to someone that you might have loved, and at that watermelon as the sun sets. Nothing's planned.... it just happens the way it happens.

That's how stories are for me. I start with a character and a problem, then the world and everything else fills in around it. Maybe when I write something that's not really just personal experience I'll have more of a plot and plan it out.

That I'm such a pantser shows up in my inability to write a se…

Fear of Success and Food

Fear of Success, Addiction to Food

by Sebastian Blade

So I bought this book. It was a weight loss book. Wonderful secrets... oooh. And I spent several days thinking... I will start this great diet! I will do this! All this really managed to do was give me several really heavy cheat days where I ate anything I wanted before I started the diet. Fail.

Something else went on the last couple weeks too. I've struggled a lot with pen names over the last few years. Once upon a time my legal name wasn't also my real name and it gave me a lot more freedom... privacy, I guess.

So there was this guy I knew in the army. He was so beautiful. I had forgotten how much I loved him. So around New Years's he finds me on facebook. Great. Well, I don't love him anymore. He was a lying bastard then, but I'm the forgiving sort, so I start talking to him... and his wife jumps my ass the next morning. SO great.

I'm thinking I'll never see him again, but a week or so ago, I get …

Um.... this is going to be a big important story. Yin is an old character of mine. He's been my muse so long that I expect few people would guess what fandom he original came from.. though really the only thing that's the same is that he has green eyes, blond curls (Natural in his case, not in the fandom boy), and angst.   The story might be an alternative universe to Alin and Jody.
